The Look The Sound The Feel

The actions in the Ravenscroft are developed and assembled by Robert Springer. Each action is CAD designed to the specific piano. Each and every part in the action is variable and carefully considered in the overall performance of the piano. This results in maximizing the various leverage ratios and design specifications for unsurpassed dynamic response and repetition.

We have chosen Kluge keys and keyframes as the foundation for our actions because of their commitment to excellence. Kluge uses only the highest grade of tight grained white spruce in the keysticks to insure dimensional stability and reduce key flexing to a minimum. This is important because key flexing is one of the major contributors to a loss of power in an action. Their keyframes incorporate a combination of red beech and white spruce to provide structural integrity and stability.

Renner actions are incorporated into the Ravenscroft pianos to allow the greatest possible control of dynamic response and repetition for the pianist. Renner actions have been the choice of the world's finest piano manufacturers for more than a century. These actions are manufactured with precise German engineering and uncompromised quality control of materials, ensuring consistency and longevity.

One of the little known secrets of Renner action parts is the use of a special wood called Weissbuche (Hornbeam in English) which is naturally air-dried and aged over several years. The enormous bending strength of Hornbeam, approximately 32% higher than that of Maple, has a particular advantage for hammer shanks. The Hornbeam hammer shank is more flexible and dense in structure than its maple counterpart which ultimately allows for less hammer/string contact time, producing a superior tonal quality with more duration.

To truly understand the feel of the Ravenscroft action we invite you to come try it yourself or simply ask someone who has. It will be an unforgettable experience.
